Week # 2A: A Power of Social Media

Feel overwhelmed by social media?

I'm pretty sure that people might have different thoughts on this.  When I first started using social media, it was about 9 years ago when my son was born.  Facebook was my first choice to join the world of social media since I just wanted to connect with my family and friends back in Thailand.  It was a great option for me to update my life and posted pictures of my son.  I would say that Facebook is the only platform I have been using and it happens to be a HUGE part of my life that I spend too much time on it 😒

Once I started my cooking class business, I realized that there was a good side of social media that could benefit for running business.  I immediately signed up with Facebook Page, YouTube, Instagram, and Yelp to help me promote my business locally.  So far, Yelp has brought me a lot of clients since people believe in "word of mouth" and they trust other people's opinion to help them make a right decision.  Check out my Yelp 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 reviews!

Within a month, I will launch another online business that has a bigger target group throughout CA.  I know that I need a power of social media to help me communicate with both current and potential customers.  Facebook Page, Twitter, Instagram, and blogging can build a community of people who have same interest and let them share their idea among the group.  However, I'd like to learn more on what I can do to use these platforms effectively.

Facebook is only thing I use for my personal use and LinkedIn just for professional side.  I don't have much experience with other platforms but I'm sure that I will be exploring more this semester and don't feel too overwhelmed by social media!

  1. First off, I would LOVE to take a cooking class with you after reading your Yelp reviews! Great job! I'm also looking forward to exploring other platforms this semester. I wanted to suggest researching how to make your Yelp (and in the future other links) on your blog posts open in a separate page. I was excited to read your post but when I hit the Yelp link it redirected me to Yelp and off of your blog and had I not wanted to finish reading your blog I might have gotten caught up in Yelp and not gone back. Keep people on your blog page. But well done! I'm looking forward to what bigger business you're coming out with!

  2. I think sometimes if we find the right platform, we may have all the business we need from just that platform. It is all a time consuming process. My Yelp page has brought me NO customers. :( But Facebook has. I thin k if I learn to do it better, to target more and use my dollars wisely I can make use of the other platforms. I think we should have the whole class attend your cooking class... maybe a group of us? I would also like to learn form you.

  3. Krong,
Yes, social media can be overwhelming. Everyone is on it and posting right and left. I sometimes don't know if I should be posting more or less. For the most part, I post very minimum. I certainly enjoy reading my friends posts.

Social platforms definitely play a large role on business. To boost a business, you need a social platform.
